North Hollywood Community Center | |
North Hollywood Artist District, Los Angeles, CA People make place. They give life and meaning to space. The NOHO Community Center was a schematic design for an indoor/outdoor forum for public gatherings, recreation, and social interaction in the Artist District of North Hollywood. Taking advantage of the beautiful Southern California climate and the ocean breeze, the center was designed as “an enclosure without walls.” Cantilevering roofs provide relief from the sun and a sense of shelter/arrival, and frame spectacular views. As if to emphasize that people are the priority, the building is hoisted off the ground in a symbolic gesture of returning the land back to the people. Located directly adjacent to the North Hollywood Metro stop, the center was intended to provide a communal space which could be enjoyed by the public 24/7, and to boost Metro ridership. |
